Constructed of silvered zink, on loop for suspension form its period original tri fold ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised inscription of KRIEGS VERDIENST (WAR MERIT), situated within a circular laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the reverse bearing a raised monogram of King Wilhelm I,
